It may be helpful to state that when parts are placed so they are aligned north that north is a particular direction in the VAB (e.g. out the open door towards the launchpad is east). This could help because it may not be immediately obvious to the player what side of the part direction is derived from. This is especially true for rocket parts with radial symmetry.

In addition, when placing the SRBs the game does not specify whether they should be placed N/S or E/W. If placed incorrectly (so the SRBs are E/W after rotating at the end of the tutorial), launching and going east would result in the boosters being on top/bottom of the rocket, instead of on the sides.
