Description

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Kerbal Space Program v0.90.0.705 32-bit with no mods/addons via Steam

Background: This Macbook dualboots Win7 and OS X from SSD, with a separate exFAT data drive. When the machine is not shutdown properly, the data drive is occasionally marked dirty and mounted read-only. Windows gives no indication of this and I don't usually notice until trying to use the drive: cannot write, "New Folder" button is gone, etc. After letting the Error Checking Tool do its thing, the drive is remounted read-write and all is well.

Issue: Started KSP, loads normally, resumed saved career game and stepped into one of my active flights. Everything looks and works fine at this point, however upon returning to the Space Center only the Mission Control building would respond to left/right click at all. Tried reloading savefile, rebooting the machine; slight panic that my savefile was corrupt. Fired up Steam to check for updates and start KSP through there, realized the data drive was read-only when Steam popped up a profile/data directory error message on start.

Solution: Remounted data drive read-write and KSP runs fine.

Fix: Refuse to run from read-only filesystem and/or give meaningful feedback.

Win 8.1 64bit, Kerbal Space Program v0.90.0.705 32-bit with no mods/addons via Steam

Background: Confirmed with NTFS drive and KSP folder marked read only by accident, however, the cause of this error is the same - the use of an SSD drive for system only and a secondary drive for other data.

Issue: the same

Solution: changed KSP folder to writeable

Fix: Report that file cannot be written, or make required file writeable, if that is a reasonable solution.

Closing this report out for now. If you find it is still occuring in the latest version of KSP please open a new report (and this one can be linked to it.) For best results, the wiki contains really useful info for when creating a report http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/projects/ksp/wiki.
