Description

Expected behavior:
HG-5 Antenna part, which is labelled in the UI as a relay antenna, should relay signals.

Experienced behavior:
HG-5 Antenna only connects to KSC, does not relay any signals.

Note these are all in Kerbin orbit/SoI.

Bug is also noted on the forums, here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/148220-12-no-relay-connection/

I have included images of the "full network" of relays (none of them connecting to each other) and and image of the crafts, which have 4 HG-5s on each of them (deployed).

Update:

Playing with the in-game Range Modifier setting gives unexpected results - if you max it out (100) and accept, then set it back down to just above 1.0 (I had 1.04 I think) then accept, they will function as relay satellites. Using 1.0 exactly is problematic (does not work).

  • Subject changed from HG-5 Relay Antenna does not work as a relay to HG-5 Relay Antenna does not work as a relay with another HG-5
  • Category changed from Parts to 507
  • Status changed from New to Confirmed
  • % Done changed from 0 to 10

Thanks for reporting this.

The HG-5 does act as a relay for other antennae but does not with another HG-5. They are mutually exclusive.

This has been forwarded for attention.

Hi brianmorton, on closer examination of your save it turns out your HG-5 vessels are out of range of each other.

The antenna range boost is only between an antenna and Kerbins ground stations, not between two antenna in flight.

Your Mun HG-5 satellite is too far from Minmus to connect to another HG-5, while the HG-5 at Minmus benefits from the Kerbin DSN range boost.

Your DTS-M1 has enough range to connect to the HG-5 relay at Minmus.

So all this is working correctly, and your Mun HG-5 satellite should not have a connection while behind the Mun.

Please see the attached pic and save file that shows the HG-5 antenna working correctly.
